WAAFL commemorates the Anzac’s Thu, April 19, 2018 - 1:45 PM

On Saturday 21 and 28 April, the WA Amateur Football League will recognise the sacrifices of those men and women who served for our country.

Many of our clubs will mark this occasion in various ways across the two Saturday's.

Canning Vale

Special guernseys, last post, service personal at matches and Anzac Day medals given out across all three grades.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Cockburn Lakes 

Special Guernsey's will be worn on July 7th as a fundraiser for the RSL- City of Cockburn Sub-Branch.

100% of the funds raised on the day will go to the RSL with raffles, competitions and the jumper auction.

They have chosen July 7th as on July 4th 1918 the Anzac's won The Battle of Hamel. A strategic win that assisted the allies close out WW1. 

 

 

 

Ellenbrook

Memorial service before the league game.

 

Gosnells

  • Players, coaches, umpires, support staff, parents and interested people will be invited to line up before all games for the last post.
  • Before the league game Mr Fred Batt from the Gosnells RSL will act as MC and read the ode "Lest We Forget".  
  • Following the game, the BARRATT/HANSEN ANZAC MEDAL (named after GFC stalwarts who were in the armed forces) for Gosnells F & B player as adjudged by the umpires will be awarded.
  • Invitations will be offered to people attending to participate in a free afternoon tea in the social room.

 

Kingsway

Celebrating Anzac Round across both weekends, A Grade the first week and E Grade the following week. Last post played, and a legacy medal awarded across both weeks.

 

Mt Lawley

Last Post, followed by a minutes silence and the rouse prior to the B Grade League match on the 21st April. 

 

North Beach

Pre-match ceremony will see the raising of the flag, a live performance of the national anthem (Holly Denton) and the last post (Dave Cusworth), with the club’s #1 ticketholder, Graham Edwards reciting the ode. Mr Edwards will also toss the coin.

 

North Fremantle

Holding the annual North Fremantle Community ANZAC Service this Anzac Day at North Fremantle, at the Fallen Soldier Memorial.  The local school is involved with the Council and a special role for our Colts who present football jumpers with names of those past players who lost their lives. 

Colts players will be wearing specially designed jumper in acknowledgement of the fallen and maimed, from our community.

 

 

 

 

Quinn’s Districts

Anzac round celebrated on 28th April.

 

SNESA

Players will wear specially designed Guernsey’s. Local RSL Members invited for the Anzac Ceremony (Ode, last post, minute silence, reveille and national anthem) before the league match. ANZAC medals awarded to the best SNESA Player in all three grades.

 

 

 

 

Willetton

In conjunction with the clubs past players day the league team will be playing in special one-off Anzac Day commemorative jumpers which will be available at auction after the game.
