VAFA v PFL: State Footy is Back Wed, July 12, 2023 - 12:05 PM

This Saturday 15 July, state footy returns with the best of the Perth Football League heading east to take on the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) in a double header for our Men’s and Women’s sides at Elsternwick Park.

The Women’s side will kick-off the action at 9:00AM AWST, followed by the Men's side taking the field at 12:00PM AWST. Both matches will be live streamed on Streamer.

This will mark a historic occasion, being the first time a double header will take place for PFL Men’s and Women’s representative sides against opposition outside of WA.

It has been 20 years since the PFL's Senior Men's side tested its strength against the Vics which ended in a 170 point loss. This Saturday, both the League's Men's and Women's representative teams have the opportunity to see how they measure up.

Craig White will coach the Men’s side and has selected 22 players and an emergency to travel to Victoria this Friday.

The Men’s team features players from seven clubs across the Toyota A Grade and B Grades, with Josh Branchi from Baldivis being the only player selected in B Grade.

Five players from both Trinity Aquinas and Kingsway have been selected, who sit first and second on the A Grade ladder, making them the most prominently selected teams in 2023.

Four players have been selected for Curtin Uni Wesley and Mount Lawley, two for reigning A Grade premiers Fremantle CBC and one for Baldivis and University.

2021 A Grade premiership captain Rowan Brookes (Kingsway) will captain the side with the support of reigning A Grade Fairest & Best winner Chris Leonard (Curtin Uni Wesley) as vice-captain.

Parris Laurie will be at the helm of the Women's side for the second year in a row and has selected 22 players and an emergency to head east this Friday.

The Women’s side features players from 13 clubs across the Toyota Women’s A Grade, B Grade, C1 and C5.

Four players from Melville have been selected including goal kicking machine Waverley Jones, making them the most prominently selected team for the women in 2023.

Three players have been selected for Curtin Uni Wesley and University, two for Kingsley and Wembley and one for Baldivis, Bassendean, Coolbellup, Fremantle CBC, North Beach, Piara Waters, Scarborough and Warnbro Swans.

Trisha Stjepic (North Beach) will captain the side with the support of Sabreena McKinnon (Baldivis) and Carla Vidovich (Bassendean) as vice-captains.
