Excitement Builds as the 2024 PFL Finals Series takes shape with the first SEN broadcast match locked in

The Perth Football League (PFL) Finals Series is upon us, and the stage is set for an exhilarating conclusion to the 2024 season. With the final round of the regular season wrapped up, the Toyota A Grade Men’s competition has taken shape, and the top teams are ready to battle it out for the ultimate glory. Trinity Aquinas finished on top of the ladder but with the unpredictable nature of the competition, this year’s finals series promises to be one of the most fiercely contested in recent memory.

The 2024 Finals Series will be further amplified by the involvement of SEN, who will be broadcasting one match each weekend, bringing the excitement of PFL footy to an even broader audience. Fans can tune in to SEN and Streamer to catch the action live as the finals unfold.

In a thrilling first year in Toyota A Grade, Ocean Ridge has secured a spot in the finals and will face off against Curtin Uni Wesley in the Elimination Final. This high-stakes clash will take place at Curtin’s South Oval and is set to be a must-watch event, with the match being live-streamed on both SEN and Streamer.

Fremantle CBC, who will host Kingsway at Morris Buzacott Reserve, enter the finals with confidence after a gritty win over Curtin Uni Wesley in round 18. This victory forced Curtin into the elimination final, adding an extra layer of intensity to the upcoming match. Trinity Aquinas, with a five-game winning streak under their belt including significant victories over Curtin Uni Wesley and Fremantle CBC, look to be the in-form team heading into the finals. However, the Toyota A Grade competition has been unpredictable, with all top five teams having beaten each other at various points throughout the season making this year’s finals series a true test of nerves and skill.

The women’s grades are already deep into their finals, with Melville securing a spot in the Toyota A Grade Women Grand Final after a stirring victory over Wembley. Wembley now faces University, who edged past Curtin Uni Wesley by a mere four points in a do-or-die clash for the remaining spot in the Grand Final.

In Toyota B Grade Women, Baldivis has clinched a place in the Grand Final and secured promotion to the top grade for the 2025 season after a commanding win over Bassendean. Bassendean will now regroup and face Bullcreek Leeming for the final spot in the Grand Final.

The excitement doesn’t stop there, as other grades continue to deliver thrilling contests. In Toyota C1 Women, Scarborough advances after a nail-biting one-point victory over Kalamunda, while in Toyota C2 Women, Kelmscott stands tall. Ballajura and Swan Valley also made their marks in the Toyota C3 Women and C4 Women grades respectively.

Baldivis saw their finals hopes dashed for the second consecutive year in the Toyota B Grade, as Collegians found another gear in the second half to overpower them. Collegians now look forward to a clash with Bullcreek Leeming at Beasley Reserve, carrying confidence from a solid win in their previous meeting.

The weekend’s action also featured some of the closest results of the season. In Toyota C1 Kalamunda held off Thornlie by just one point at Ray Owen Reserve and now head to Melville who lost to Cockburn Lakes in a low-scoring battle. Meanwhile, Kwinana and Gosnells (Toyota C2), Forrestdale and North Beach (Toyota C3), Manning Rippers and University (Toyota C4), and Kelmscott and Kenwick (C5) will all contest their respective qualifying finals aiming for a coveted Grand Final spot. Interestingly in the C5 Reserves, Bayswater broke their drought with their first finals win since the early 2000s.

In the EGT Drew Banfield Colts, North Fremantle dominated Bullcreek Leeming, keeping them to just one point, while Trinity Aquinas surprised Hamersley Carine in their Toyota E1 matchup.

This weekend also marks the highly anticipated Life Without Barriers Integrated A & B Division Grand Finals at Coolbinia Oval on Saturday 24th August. Willetton will take on Coolbinia in the A Division, while Fremantle CBC will clash with Mandurah Mustangs for the B Division flag.
