Fisher and Larsen to Lead Colts into North v South Showdown

The countdown is on for the second annual EGT North v South Colts Clash, with two highly respected community coaches eager to guide the League’s emerging talent when the best young players from across the Perth Football League meet at UWA Sports Park on Friday, 17 July from 6:00pm.

Leading the North will be Kingsley coach Andrew Fisher, whose impact at Colts level has quickly earned recognition across the competition. After taking over the Kingsley Colts program in 2024, Fisher was named the Perth Football League’s Coach of the Year last season and has since stepped into the club’s senior ranks while continuing to invest in developing young footballers.

For Fisher, the representative clash is an opportunity for players from across the northern clubs to showcase their abilities alongside some of the League’s brightest young talent.

“It’s a great opportunity for all the young players to showcase their talent and their abilities,” Fisher said.

“Some have already had exposure to WAFL clubs, others aspire to get there. It’s a chance for them to show what they’ve got and see where it can take them.”

With 38 nominations representing 12 clubs in the North squad, Fisher is excited by the opportunity to bring together players who would usually line up against one another each weekend.

Rather than focusing purely on football, he hopes the group quickly builds genuine connections.

“I hope we can get all the boys to gel together and become mates. The closer they get as a group, the better we’re going to go on the Friday night.”

“It’s a great opportunity to play with some of the best players in our League and showcase their talents.”

Having spent several years coaching Colts, Fisher believes the age group is one of the most rewarding to work with.

“It’s such a big stage of life. Some have just left school, some are starting university or apprenticeships. If I can be a positive influence in any way, I take a great amount of pride in that.”

He says creating the right balance between enjoyment and accountability is key.

“We try to create an environment where the boys can have a bit of fun and get around their mates, but also hold a high standard and bring the best version of themselves.”

Coaching the South side will be Fremantle CBC premiership coach David Larsen, fresh from guiding the club to last year’s Colts premiership after ending a four-year drought on the biggest stage.

Larsen said accepting the coaching role aligned perfectly with what he hopes to contribute to community football.

“It’s the age group that’s really important to community footy and really important to clubs.”

“You want to get those players engaged, keep them around and help them grow, not just on the field but off it as well.”

The South squad boasts an impressive 51 nominations from 21 clubs, giving Larsen no shortage of talent to work with.

While selecting the final squad will be difficult, he says effort, development and team fit will be just as important as natural ability.

“We’ve got an idea of the way we want the South team to play and we’ll select players that fit that.”

“Talent will always rise to the top, but those who really want to develop and put in the effort will get opportunities too.”

Like Fisher, Larsen believes relationships are the foundation of successful coaching, particularly with players in the Colts age bracket.

“Footy is all about relationships. The football is secondary to that.”

“If you can put good people together and teach them what they need, that’s most of the job.”

He hopes players leave the program with confidence, pride and a clearer picture of what their football journey could become.

“I want them to experience representative football, play alongside high-quality players and take pride in what they’ve achieved.”

“Hopefully it’s something they can springboard from, whether that’s senior PFL football or WAFL Futures.”

Now in its second year, the EGT North v South Colts Clash continues to provide one of the League’s premier development opportunities, bringing together the competition’s best young footballers while showcasing the future of community football in Western Australia.

The 2026 EGT North v South Colts Clash will be played at UWA Sports Park on Friday, 17 July, with the first bounce at 6:00pm.
