Match of the Week – Kenwick V Maddington

The round three Keystart Home Loans match of the week is the C Gold match between Kenwick and Maddington at Mills Park.

Kenwick and Maddington are certainly no strangers to each other. Both teams were a part of the former Sunday Football League and have now made the transition to playing on Saturdays in the WAAFL.

Maddington kicked off their maiden WAAFL season successfully with a 36-point win over High Wycombe in round one at Scott Reserve.

Kenwick has had a different start to the season, losing at home in round one to Ocean Ridge by eight points and again to High Wycombe on ANZAC Day by 70 points.

The Royals have lost just three games in their last nine outings at Mills Park while Maddington have won seven of their last 11 away games.

The 2008 SFL season saw Maddington finish second before bowing out in the preliminary final to Kenwick 8.12 (60) to 13.13 (73).

Kenwick also handed Maddington two of their three losses in rounds seven and 14 of the regular season by 42 and 63 points respectively.

The Royals also has a stellar 2008 season finishing the year third with just four losses and reaching the grand final before losing by 38 points to Gosnells.

Kenwick was the most successful club in the SFL, with eight premierships to Maddington’s two.

Former Maddington and current Collingwood player Leon Davis won the 2008 AFL goal of the year, with AFL sponsor Toyota donating $5000 to Davis’ grassroots club.
