PFL Representative Team Men Continue Strong Record Against WA State Country Men

The PFL Representative Team Men delivered a powerful second-half performance to defeat the WA State Country Men by 45 points at HIF Health Insurance Oval, Joondalup on Friday night.
Returning for the first time in five years, the representative fixture once again went the way of the Perth Football League, with the PFL running out convincing 14.12 (96) to 8.3 (51) winners.
The match was fiercely contested throughout the opening half, with the WA State Country Men matching the PFL’s intensity around the contest and remaining within striking distance at the main break.
However, the game turned decisively in the third quarter as the PFL produced arguably its best football of the evening. Five unanswered goals, and a 20-0 inside 50 count in a dominant term blew the margin open and laid the foundation for a comprehensive victory.
The result further strengthens the PFL’s proud history in the fixture, with the League now recording its 14th victory in the series.
The PFL controlled large portions of the game statistically, finishing with 333 disposals to 272 and generating 56 inside 50s compared to the State Country side’s 21. The midfield group was particularly influential, winning the clearance battle 36-25 and helping the PFL maintain territorial advantage throughout the second half.
Curtin Uni Wesley Football Club midfielder Kade Stewart was awarded Best on Ground following a superb all-round performance. Stewart collected 16 disposals, 10 contested possessions, five inside 50s and two goals, providing a spark whenever the game was in the balance.
Brodie Matthew Gray from Ocean Ridge produced one of the standout performances of the night, finishing with a game-high 133 ranking points. Gray amassed 32 disposals, 18 contested possessions, 10 clearances and seven inside 50s, consistently driving the PFL forward from stoppage.
University’s Cyrus Upson was equally influential, gathering 26 disposals at 80 per cent efficiency, along with six clearances and six inside 50s. His composure with ball in hand and ability to create opportunities made him one of the PFL’s most important players.
Kyle Hamersley (Curtin Uni Wesley) continued his strong representative form, recording 25 disposals, six inside 50s and two clearances to finish among the side’s best performers.
Kingsway’s Lachlan Vanirsen was a constant threat in attack and through the midfield, collecting 24 disposals, seven inside 50s and two goals, while Braydn Furmark (Kingsway) in his sixth time representing the PFL made the most of his opportunities forward of centre with three goals, five marks and five inside 50s.
The victory capped an outstanding evening for the Perth Football League, with both representative teams recording wins in front of a strong crowd at HIF Health Insurance Oval.
